I’m pleased to present our latest research for you. This list includes publishers that pay for writing about food. This covers many different areas of specialty, including restaurants, farming, travel, industry profiles, wine, beer, and more

Many of these publications are wonderful in their own right, presenting interesting deep dives into the world of food, and the people who make wonderful meals possible.

If you’re a paid subscriber, I encourage you to send me a draft pitch before contacting one of these publications, especially if you’re new to pitching. I would be happy to give feedback on your pitch.

  1. Smart Mouth E-Newsletter is a twice-monthly newsletter that is a companion to the Smart Mouth podcast. They are seeking "Histories of restaurant chains and food items, consumer-facing farm issues, eating guides to various cities, school lunches. A mix of history, progressive food politics, and just fun frothy stuff." They pay around $1.00 per word. For more details, visit their pitching guidelines page.

  2. Taste is an online magazine for those who love to cook at home. They look for original recipes, reported stories (500 to 2,000 words), concise guides for the home kitchen, chef and cookbook author profiles that have a home cooking angle, photo essays, shopping guides, opinion pieces, and colorful stories from unique home kitchens. According to payment reports, they pay up to $0.70 per word. For more information, visit their pitching page.

  3. Food52 is “the premier destination for kitchen & home enthusiasts offering a curated shop, industry-leading content, and a vibrant community.” They offer flat rates, as opposed to per-word compensation, based on the anticipated length and workload. This ranges from $200 for a short article or standard recipe (with potential reimbursement of up to $50 for ingredients) to over $500 for larger projects. For more information, visit their pitching guidelines page.
